Welcome Message

I welcome you to the official website of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York.

The Mission started its journey in 1974 following Bangladesh’s admission to the UN as its 136th member. The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his maiden speech at the UN General Assembly on 25 September 1974 said, “The United Nations remains the focus of man’s hope for the future…”  This encapsulates Bangladesh’s abiding faith and confidence in the UN and multilateralism and guides us in our engagement with the world body in the pursuit of world peace, sustainable development and human rights.  Bangladesh deeply values its engagement with the UN, and under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are endeavoring to contribute to its work and expand our value-driven footprint at the UN.

The year 2020 is a very special year for all Bangladeshis as we celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.  This auspicious occasion also happily coincides with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN.  We have plans to mark this special occasion in a special manner at the UN.

Our priorities continue to evolve based on our national interest and global dynamics. As the world is grappling with the unprecedented challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic at this moment, we remain deeply engaged with the international community’s efforts to respond to the crisis and to building back better for a sustainable global recovery.

I hope you find our website useful.  We have provided an overview of Bangladesh’s priorities and engagements at the UN, including at the historic and unprecedented 75th anniversary session this year.

As we continue to update the website, we would welcome thoughtful ideas and feedback from you for its further improvement.

I thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

Stay safe, stay well.
