    Welcome Message

I welcome you to the official website of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York.

The Mission started its journey in 1974 following Bangladesh’s admission to the United Nations as its 136th member. The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his maiden speech at the UN General Assembly on 25 September 1974 said, “The United Nations remains the focus of man’s hope for the future”. This encapsulates Bangladesh’s abiding faith and confidence in the United Nations and multilateralism and guides us in our engagement with the international community in the pursuit of world peace, sustainable development and human rights.

Our commitment to the United Nations is deeply ingrained, and under the dynamic leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we strive to contribute meaningfully to its endeavors while expanding our significant presence.  We are the top troops and police contributing countries to the United Nations Peacekeeping operations. We proudly lead numerous crucial bodies within the United Nations and participate in various pivotal processes of the organization.

Among others, Bangladesh is currently serving as the Vice-President of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board for 2023. Prior to that we served as the Chair of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission and as the President of the Executive Board of United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for 2022.

Our priorities, shaped by both national interests and global dynamics, continue to evolve. We have been recommended by the United Nations to be graduated from the LDC status by 2026. As we are preparing for a smooth transition from LDC to a developing country, we need enhanced cooperation from the United Nations and international community. The Mission would remain committed to working closely with global community to uphold the image of Bangladesh at the United Nations.

I hope you will find our website useful. We have provided an overview of Bangladesh’s priorities and engagements at the United Nations. As we continue to update the website, we would welcome thoughtful ideas and feedback from you for its further improvement.

I thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

    Muhammad Abdul Muhith

    Ambassador & Permanent Representative
